Meal Planner – What’s on My Plate?29.04.2024

Let’s think about food! It’s important to eat a balanced diet to stay healthy. The easiest way to accomplish this, is with a little bit of meal planning. When you plan your meals in advance, you’re less likely to eat unhealthy snacks when hunger strikes.

This activity is split into two parts for different age groups – so make sure to check which part is more suited to your grade.

Part 1: Grades 1 – 4
Ask your parents to download the ‘My Plate’ template. This visual guide gives you a good idea about how much of each food group should be included on your plate each meal.

• Download the ‘My Meal’ template and use it to make a list of foods you think could be included in each of the food groups.
• Once finished, arrange some of those foods together to create a meal on your plate.

Finished already? Why not make a plate for each part of the day – breakfast, lunch and dinner!

Extra Challenge: Cook one of these meals with your family!

Part 2: Grades 5 – 8
Download and print out the ‘Meal Planner’ template. Use this guide to plan one week of healthy meals to have with your family.

You can use the ‘My Plate’ template to refresh your memory on how each food group should be represented in the meals you choose. Get creative with your meals and think about the different options your family can cook for each day of the week without being too repetitive.
